Retro 2008 Breaks All Records!

It’s official.  This year’s Retro on Roscoe was AWESOME, wildly exceeding our expectations…and then some

The weather was perfect, the volunteers were mighty and attendance over the weekend numbered a staggering 23,000 + people.  In fact, Saturday alone drew over 15,000 people to our fine Village.  The bottom line?  Retro on Roscoe 2008 was our most successful street fair ever – raising over $100,000 to fund next year’s community projects, support our local schools and continue to help make Roscoe Village one of the most appealing neighborhoods in the city.

A special thanks to all the volunteers who contributed their time and energy toward making Retro the record breaker that it was.  A special shout-out to Alison Kramme, Chair of this year’s Retro and to Director-at-Large Colleen Flood, who coordinated our legendary Antique Car Show.

August Membership Meeting Canceled
The Membership Meeting normally scheduled for this evening will not be held. We look forward to seeing you at our next regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, September 10 at 7:30pm at the Lincoln Belmont Library, 1659 W. Melrose.

Retro Lost and Found
We have a few items that were lost during Retro, including one infant Nike sneaker. Email info@roscoevillage.org if there’s anything you’re missing.

Halloween Parade/Party Volunteers Needed
The Annual Roscoe Village Halloween Parade is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 26th.  RVN is looking for volunteers to help with the organization and execution of this year’s parade and after party at Audubon School.  We had over 1500 people attend last year’s parade, and over 300 families attend the party at the school.  We are looking to make the 2008 Roscoe Village Halloween parade the best yet!  If you’d like to join our Boo Crew, please email info@roscoevillage.org.  It’s so much fun it’s almost scary!

Guinness Oysterfest on Roscoe
Mark your calendars! Fresh oysters ... Guinness beer ... and live music are in the mix for Guinness Oyster Fest at Roscoe and Damen in our strolling-friendly Roscoe Village neighborhood. The fest will take place Saturday, September 6 from Noon-10pm on Roscoe between Damen and Leavitt.

To many, this post-Labor Day event heralds the unofficial start of fall. Appropriately, oysters on the half shell will be sold on-site!  Although the music lineup is still being finalized, among the performers will be acclaimed genre-bending Irish-American rapper, singer and songwriter Everlast.  Click here for more information.

Thanks to a Kind Stranger
On behalf of a very grateful RVN member, we’d like to thank the stranger who found her lost keys, tracked her down through a child’s tiny picture on the keychain and returned the keys to her home. Now that’s kindness above and beyond the ordinary!
