As we enter our 3rd calendar year under the COVID pandemic it feels almost cliché to open another RVN Village View reflecting on sacrifices made, adversity faced, and successes achieved in the past several months.  But here we are and once again I must convey how proud I am of Roscoe Village for its resiliency.  Our residents have supported each other through hardships, supported our local businesses, and shown amazing adaptability as we navigate continually changing restrictions and guidance.

In October, following on the heels of a successful Retro on Roscoe, we hosted our Halloween Block Party.  The new format, designed to mitigate COVID risk, received rave reviews.  We welcome community feedback as we begin to plan this event for next year.  The Winterfest tree lighting ceremony was an amazing experience attended by several hundred residents.  While we faced rain and cold temperatures the following day, those who braved the weather enjoyed sleigh rides and other fun activities hosted by RVN and local businesses.

We are starting planning for 2022, already booking bands for Retro and looking at the feasibility of hosting some of our other favorite events such as Clean & Green, Membership Appreciation, and the Garden Walk.  Our Neighborhood Watch Committee has been extremely active working with city and state leaders, the Chicago Police Department, and residents to ensure that Roscoe Village has appropriate public safety resources.  A more comprehensive update can be found in our upcoming newsletter which should be delivered the week of 2/14. Our Zoning and Planning Committee works with our Aldermen to address planning and land use concerns ensuring that we remain a “Village within the City.”

As always, we appreciate the support of our members and look forward to serving Roscoe Village in 2022!
