The Chicago City Council recently passed an ordinance to honor the late Colleen J. Flood, a beloved figure in the Roscoe Village community, who passed away on September 19, 2023. This tribute recognizes her remarkable contributions to the neighborhood, where she was a driving force in promoting community engagement and local business development.
Born on August 22, 1944, Colleen moved to Roscoe Village in 1979 and quickly established herself as a dedicated businesswoman. Together with her partner Paul, she revitalized the area by opening a beauty salon and later co-owning the popular “Four Treys Tavern,” one of Chicago’s first dog-friendly bars. Her passion for animals and community led her to mentor new business owners and foster lifelong friendships with residents.
Colleen’s influence extended beyond her businesses. As a founding member of the Roscoe Village Neighbors Association, she played a pivotal role in organizing events that defined the neighborhood’s culture, including the Annual Retro on Roscoe Street Festival and the Roscoe Village Winterfest. Her vision helped establish a sense of community pride, culminating in the naming of “Roscoe Village” itself.
The ordinance designates North Damen Avenue, between West Henderson and West Roscoe Streets, as “Honorary Colleen J. Flood Way.” This recognition serves not only as a tribute to her legacy but also as a reminder of the profound impact one individual can have on a community.
Colleen’s dedication and leadership have left an indelible mark on Roscoe Village, shaping it into the vibrant community it is today. As we reflect on her life and contributions, we celebrate a woman who truly exemplified the spirit of Chicago.
